BOUCTOUCHE (GNB) – Thanks to support from the provincial and federal governments, the Town of Bouctouche can proceed with plans to expand its industrial park.

“The provincial government is pleased to be partnering with our federal counterparts to provide funding for infrastructure improvements which are so important to the growth of communities,” said Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Claude Williams. “Our government's investment in the expansion of the Bouctouche Industrial Park is an important part of our plan to create jobs and make life better for the people of New Brunswick.”

Williams spoke on behalf of Natural Resources Minister Paul Robichaud, who is also minister responsible for the Regional Development Corporation.

The project involves the expansion of the industrial park by eight sites. Work will involve site preparation and the extension of sewage and lighting services as well as the continuation of Industrial Street by about 800 metres.

“Our government believes that a strong, competitive economy is founded on hard work, partnerships and innovation,” said Senator Rose-May Poirier. “That is why we are pleased to partner with the Town of Bouctouche to support the expansion of the Bouctouche Industrial Park. Our investment will allow current businesses to expand and stimulate the local economy by attracting new businesses to the region.”

Poirier spoke on behalf of Rob Moore, minister of state for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA).

The Bouctouche Industrial Park is a hub of economic activity for the town and Kent County.

“It is clear that Bouctouche is open for business,” said Aldéo Saulnier, mayor of Bouctouche. “This three way partnership between the federal government, the Province of New Brunswick and the Town of Bouctouche allows for smaller communities such as Bouctouche to compete on a level playing field. Moreover, this expansion of the Bouctouche Industrial Park marries perfectly with the recently announced twinning of the Route 11 highway from Shédiac to Bouctouche. This is good news and welcome news for us here in Bouctouche.”

The provincial government is investing $400,000 in the project, while the federal government, through ACOA’s Innovative Communities Fund, is also contributing $400,000. The Town of Bouctouche is providing $451,666.
