DOAKTOWN (GNB) – The provincial government is investing $87,000 towards a new community park in Doaktown.

“The creation of the new park will be a benefit to the residents and families of Doaktown as well as visitors to the region,” said Premier David Alward. “Smart investments in communities are an important part of our plan to create jobs and make life better in New Brunswick.”

Alward joined Southwest Miramichi MLA Jake Stewart and officials from Doaktown for the announcement.

“As mayor of Doaktown and on behalf of the village council and residents, I would like to thank the provincial government for this funding to allow us to proceed with the Doaktown Community Park,” said Mayor Bev Gaston. “This park will not only be put to great use by our residents, but will attract visitors to our area and beautify our community.”

Funding of $87,000 through the Regional Development Corporation will be used towards the creation of the park which will be located in the centre of the village along Route 8. It will be wheelchair and strolling accessible with a gazebo, open stage, benches and walking paths as well as a splash pad for children.
