BAS-CARAQUET (GNB) – The provincial government is recognizing the contribution Ocean Group will make to the regional economy of the Acadian Peninsula, as well as the provincial economy, as the company resumes operations today at the shipyard in Bas-Caraquet.

“Your government understands what matters to New Brunswickers,” said Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour Minister Donald Arseneault, who is also minister responsible for the Regional Development Corporation. “We know how important creating jobs and growing the economy are to New Brunswickers and their families. The construction of the floating dry dock is an ideal project to revive shipbuilding and repair activities in the Acadian Peninsula.”

Under a recently negotiated agreement with the provincial government, Ocean Group resumes construction of a floating dry dock at the shipyard. Among other clauses of the agreement, the company will pay increased rent for use of the facility and will be responsible for the maintenance and repair of all equipment, including its future replacement.

Ocean Group, a major Quebec company in the maritime field, operates mainly in Quebec, Ontario, New Brunswick and Newfoundland and Labrador. It now has nearly 850 employees and is one of the largest providers of maritime solutions in Canada.
