TRACADIE (GNB) – Construction is underway on an expansion project at Les Résidences Lynne-Ferguson.

“Our government’s investment in this important project will allow the residents to have a better quality of life and will enable the staff to be more effective in the delivery of services,” said Environment and Local Government Minister Serge Rousselle, who recently participated in a sod-turning to mark the start of the project.

Rousselle spoke on behalf of Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Bill Fraser, who is the minister responsible for the Regional Development Corporation.

The facility specializes in providing services to adults with autism, looking after their physical needs, making arrangements for followup by doctors and psychiatrists, organizing educational and recreational activities and helping with integration into the community.

The provincial government invested $335,000 in the $675,000 project, which will expand the facility by about 186 square metres (2,000 square feet) and update the building’s exterior. The expansion will allow for four additional rooms for residents, office space, a larger dining area and kitchen, and a new multi-purpose room.
