FREDERICTON (GNB) – The provincial government has issued two requests for qualifications for those interested in developing and operating a new 60-bed nursing home in the city of Moncton and a new 30-bed nursing home in the town of Riverview.

"Our government is moving forward with our commitment to create new nursing home beds in the Greater Moncton area," said Social Development Minister Madeleine Dubé.  "These important projects, once complete, will offer high-quality services to our seniors in their own community, close to family and friends."

A two-step process will be used to select the successful candidates. The request for qualifications is the first step in the process and invites parties to submit responses indicating their interest and qualifications for the project. From there, a shortlist of qualified applicants will be identified and invited to participate in the request for proposals to design, build, finance, operate and maintain the two facilities.

"Nursing home infrastructure is important to meet the growing needs of the aging population in New Brunswick," said Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Claude Williams. "The new facilities in Moncton and Riverview will help to meet both current and future needs in the region, while also providing seniors with new, modern and safe accommodations."

All requests for qualifications must be completed in accordance with set terms and conditions which are available on the New Brunswick Opportunities Network website. The deadline for submissions is July 11.

The new nursing home beds were announced as part of the provincial government's 2011-2016 Nursing Home Renovation and Replacement Plan, under which 354 nursing home beds and 704 specialized care beds are being created across the province.
