FREDERICTON (GNB) – The following message was released today by Social Development Minister Cathy Rogers in recognition of November being National Adoption Awareness Month:

Each year, we dedicate the month of November to focus on the need for adoptive families, and to take the time to thank those caring people who have already opened their homes and adopted a child or children.

Families come in many forms, and all children deserve the opportunity to have a warm, loving family, and to reach their fullest potential. We would also like to recognize the hard work of the New Brunswick Adoption Foundation for their efforts in helping draw attention to our province’s ongoing need for loving, committed and, most importantly, permanent homes for children in care.

At any given moment, there are about 500 children in permanent care across the province available for adoption – waiting for a family to call their own.

To those who are considering adoption, I urge you to please call 1-866-ADOPT01 or contact your regional office of Social Development for more information.
