FREDERICTON (GNB) – The following message was issued today by Social Development Minister Cathy Rogers in recognition of National Volunteer Week, April 12-18:

New Brunswickers are known for helping when help is needed. Our communities, organizations and institutions are built upon a strong sense of co-operation and with the belief that helping others benefits everyone.

Volunteering happens every day in every corner of our province. In fact, it is estimated that volunteers contribute more than 50 million hours to helping others each year.

Our government has made helping families a priority and volunteers contribute to that common goal. We also believe in the importance of giving back in a personal and meaningful way.

During National Volunteer Week, I thank all volunteers for their dedication and commitment to helping others. I encourage all New Brunswickers to take the opportunity to give their time to a community or non-profit organization.

Our government appreciates the efforts of the thousands of volunteers who work tirelessly to help move New Brunswick forward and we thank you for your continued service.
