FREDERICTON (GNB) – Inspection reports for licensed nursing homes, special care homes and specialized care bed homes in New Brunswick are now accessible online.

“I am pleased our government has fulfilled its commitment to publish inspection reports for long-term care facilities online,” said Social Development Minister Cathy Rogers. “It is important for this information to be available to New Brunswickers to help them make an informed decision when choosing a facility to care for a loved one.”

Online publication of nursing homes, special care homes and specialized care bed homes inspection reports starts today with the posting of reports on all licensed facilities dating back to January 2014 .This initiative will encourage continued compliance with the government’s health and safety regulations and standards for the licensing of long-term care facilities.

Nursing homes, special care homes and specialized care bed homes are inspected annually by the departments of Social Development, Health (Public Health branch), and Public Safety (Office of the Fire Marshall). The inspection process ensures facilities are following regulations and that proper care is being provided pursuant to the licensing requirements.

The process involves a one-to-three day inspection of the facility using a list of criteria relating to administration, resident services, human resources, and environment. Operators are given a copy of the inspection report within 30 days of the inspection. If an operator is found not to be compliant, the inspection report indicates dates by which corrective actions must be taken. Once in compliance, an updated inspection report will be posted.

“The safety and security of vulnerable seniors and adults with disabilities is of utmost importance to our government,” said Rogers. “Providing inspection reports online assures transparency in our province’s long-term care system and ensures facilities provide high-quality care to our most vulnerable citizens.”
