FREDERICTON (GNB) – Nov. 29 will mark the second annual Children and Youth in Care Day in New Brunswick.

“It is important for children and youth in care to have a special day where they can come together to raise awareness and strengthen the connection among adults who support their care, and also to celebrate their own accomplishments,” said Social Development Minister Cathy Rogers. “It is by valuing their perspectives, while supporting their needs as they grow up, that children and youth in care are better able to reach their full potential.”

In 2014, in response to the recommendations presented in the report A Long Road Home: An account of the first ever New Brunswick Youth in Care Hearings, Rogers declared Nov. 29, as the annual day for children and youth in care. The day was chosen jointly with the New Brunswick Youth in Care Network, which is part of Partners for Youth.

Various local celebrations are being held across the province for children and youth to commemorate the day.
