SAINT JOHN (GNB) – Artists, musicians and producers from across Atlantic Canada are in Saint John for the 2017 East Coast Music Week, April 26-30.

“Our province is thrilled to host East Coast Music Week in Saint John this year,” said Tourism, Heritage and Culture Minister John Ames. “The events happening around the city are a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our region’s tremendous musical talent.”

Throughout the week, there will be more than 200 musical acts at 10 venues around the city. Tonight’s gala awards show will be hosted by comedian James Mullinger. The show will present awards in 12 categories, with several other awards being presented at showcase events during the week.

New Brunswickers have received 45 nominations in 26 categories.

The provincial government, through the Regional Development Corporation, has provided $250,000 to the East Coast Music Association for production of the music conference and awards gala.

It is estimated that hosting East Coast Music Week will generate $3.1 million in economic benefits for the province.

“The cultural sector has enormous economic and social value,” said Ames. “Events like this provide many positive economic spinoffs to the City of Saint John and the province.”

The 2017 East Coast Music Awards will showcase New Brunswick’s contributions to the music culture of the region, and will also provide opportunities for artists and industry professionals to further their careers and grow the sector.
