SAINT-QUENTIN (GNB) – Mount Carleton Provincial Park will be open three additional weeks this year as a pilot initiative to meet the increased shoulder season demand.

“We are committed to offering extraordinary experiences to visitors in our provincial parks throughout the seasons,” said Tourism, Heritage and Culture Minister Robert Gauvin. “Extending the season until the Thanksgiving weekend in October will provide the opportunity for visitors to explore the park when the fall colours are at their peak.”

The costs as well as the economic impact of the extension will be reviewed after the season to assess the long-term viability of keeping the park open until the long weekend of October.

“I am thrilled for the local population and for visitors about Minister Gauvin’s decision to maintain the opening dates for this provincial gem located in Saint-Quentin’s back yard,” said Saint-Quentin Mayor Nicole Somers. “Mount Carleton Provincial Park is the only wilderness park in New Brunswick and it has become, through the years, a prime destination for outdoor and ecotourism enthusiasts.”
