NIAGARA (GNB) -- Para swimmer Jesse Canney struck gold in the 200-metre individual medley para and wrestlers Kara Steeves, Vivian Kutnowski and Kai LeBlanc each garnered bronze medals for four medals Thursday at the 2022 Canada Summer Games in Niagara.

Team New Brunswick’s medal count stands at ten so far at the 2022 Canada Summer Games.

Steeves, Kutnowksi and Leblanc each won their medals in their respective individual categories.

Kutnowski’s medal performance means Team New Brunswick opening ceremony flag bearers now have medalled at the 2022 Canada Summer Games. Canney and Kutnowski led Team New Brunswick at last Saturday’s opening ceremonies.

Canney’s gold-medal performance earned him his sixth medal of the 2022 Canada Summer Games and his ninth overall at the Canada Games. He won three medals at the 2017 Canada Summer Games in Winnipeg.

The men’s soccer team played a late game Thursday against Ontario to see who will advance to Friday’s gold medal match. New Brunswick lost 2-0 to Ontario and will play Alberta in the bronze medal game at 4 p.m. Friday.

The women’s box lacrosse plays a placement match against Saskatchewan Friday. The lacrosse players lost 7-6 Thursday in triple overtime against Quebec.

The triathlon team participates in the mixed team relay Friday in Welland. Thursday’s triathlon super sprint competition saw Team New Brunswick’s men finish Yannick Dupuis, 18th, Kieran Everett, 23rd and Alexandre Comeau, 24th and the women’s finish Emerson Scott, 27th, Lydia Bodechon, 28th, and Kirsten Simpson, 29th.

Tennis returns to the court for consolation placing against Nova Scotia. The women’s basketball team plays Nova Scotia and the men will tip off against Newfoundland and Labrador or Ontario. The baseball team will face Manitoba in a consolation placing match. The men’s beach volleyball faces Yukon for placing while the women’s team plays Quebec in a semi-final match.

The mountain bike men’s and women’s sprint occur Friday morning along with the open water swim for both men and women in Welland.
